A24 have released the trailer for David Lowery’s upcoming film “The Green Knight,” a take on the Arthurian legend starring Academy Award nominee Dev Patel (“Lion”).

“The Green Knight” is the next feature from Lowery who has had a string of critically acclaimed films in recent years, including “A Ghost Story,” “The Old Man and the Gun” and “Pete’s Dragon.” All three couldn’t be more different from each other and it seems Lowery has once again shown off his versatility as a director with this upcoming film.

The story follows Patel’s Sir Gawain, the nephew of King Arthur, who embarks on a quest to find the creature known as ‘The Green Knight.’ A glimpse of the creature appears at the very end of the trailer with Patel’s Gawain confronting it.

Patel recently featured in Armando Iannucci’s “The Personal History of David Copperfield” and this will mark the first time Patel and Lowery have worked together. Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”) and Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton (“Loving”) are among the supporting cast, alongside a talented group of British and Irish actors including Ralph Ineson (“The Witch”), Kate Dickie (“Game of Thrones”), Barry Keoghan (“The Killing of A Sacred Deer”) and Sarita Choudhury (“The Path”).

Lowery and A24 are no strangers to each other having collaborated on “A Ghost Story” which starred Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara and there has been much anticipation for this next feature given the success of both parties previously.

A24 had a stellar showing at the recent Independent Spirit Awards, with “The Farewell” picking up Best Film and “Uncut Gems” picking up the Best Director prize and Best Actor for Adam Sandler. Robert Eggers’ psychological horror “The Lighthouse” was also nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Cinematography.

A24 released the trailer on their YouTube channel and can be watched below:

“The Green Knight” is set to be released on May 29, 2020.
