Bleecker Street have revealed the trailer for their latest feature “The Roads Not Taken,” which stars Academy Award winner Javier Bardem (“No Country For Old Men”) and is set to have its World Premiere at the Berlin Film Festival this month.
The film is the latest for the distribution company, who have already released “The Assistant” this year have Sundance drama “Dream Horse” coming very soon. The company have had success in the Best Actor category at the Oscars in the last few years, with “Trumbo” and “Captain Fantastic” bringing Bryan Cranston and Viggo Mortensen nominations respectively.
Bardem will be hoping that “The Roads Not Taken” will follow a similar trajectory to those previous Bleecker Street films. Directed by British filmmaker Sally Potter (“The Party”), the synopsis for the film as found on Bleecker Street’s official YouTube page reads:
“Sally Potter’s THE ROADS NOT TAKEN follows a day in the life of Leo (Javier Bardem) and his daughter, Molly (Elle Fanning) as she grapples with the challenges of her father’s chaotic mind. As they weave their way through New York City, Leo’s journey takes on a hallucinatory quality as he floats through alternate lives he could have lived, leading Molly to wrestle with her own path as she considers her future.”
Bardem is joined by a strong ensemble of female talent, including Elle Fanning, Academy Award nominee Laura Linney (“The Savages”) and Academy Award nominee Salma Hayek (“Frida”). Director Potter has written the script and will also provide the soundtrack. Academy Award nominee Robbie Ryan (“The Favourite”) will provide the cinematography.
The film marks the latest in Bardem’s illustrious career, who also has Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” to be released later in the year. As well as his win for “No Country For Old Men” he was also nominated for “Biutiful” from Alejandro G. Iñárritu and “Before Night Falls” directed by Julian Schnabel.
