Magnolia Pictures has released a teaser trailer for “Buffaloed,” a comedy from director Tanya Wexler. The film stars Zoey Deutch (“Set It Up,” “The Politician”).
Buffalo is the debt collection capital of America, though Peg Dahl (Zoey Deutch) never saw herself in that world. She’s bet on her sharp mind—and even sharper mouth—to get her out of town and into an Ivy League university. But when an acceptance letter to the school of her dreams arrives, she quickly realizes the cruel impossibility of paying tuition.
A chance phone call changes everything and leads her into the lucrative yet complex and shady business of delinquent debt collection. She’s a natural and soon running her own shop, but at what cost? Also starring Judy Greer, Jai Courtney and Jermaine Fowler, BUFFALOED is a hilarious and timely comedy about one woman rewriting the rules of The Man’s game.
Wexler directs from a script by Brian Sacca. Some of Wexler’s previous works include “Ball in the House,” “Finding North” and “Hysteria,” starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hugh Dancy and Jonathon Pryce. Zoey Deutch stars in Wexler’s latest, after having worked on “Zombieland: Double Tap.” She is slated to star in Katie Silberman’s “Most Dangerous Game.”
“Buffaloed” premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. Award Circuit’s own Joey Magidson wrote of the film, “If the world of debt collection never seemed like prime real estate for a film, “Buffalo” takes the challenge and runs with the idea with great success. The smarts of the movie are truly what sets it apart, along with Deutch’s amazing performance.”
“Buffaloed” is produced by Lost City and Bold Crayon. Magnolia Pictures is distributing the film, which opens in theaters Feb. 14, 2020.
