Weinstein Co. Pushes ‘Tulip Fever’ with Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan to 2017

The Weinstein Co. has pushed the release of “Tulip Fever” from July 15 to Feb. 24, 2017 it was announced today. The seven month-long delay comes just over a week before the film was set to have a limited release in theaters.

The film, which is set in 17th century Amsterdam, follows a married woman (recent Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander) who begins a passionate affair with an artist (Dane DeHaan) hired to paint a portrait of her and her husband (Christoph Waltz). The lovers gamble on the booming market for tulip bulbs as a way to raise money to run away together. It is based on Deborah Moggach’s romance novel of the same name.

Vikander will be seen in two other films this year: this summer’s “Jason Bourne” with Matt Damon and the buzzy film “The Light Between Oceans” with real-life boyfriend Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz.

The Weinstein Co. has several other buzzy pictures set for release this year.
