As the Summer television season gets underway, each network is slowly unveiling their new shows that will look to entertain audiences throughout the next couple of months, most notably HBO and their brand new series “Perry Mason” starring Emmy Winner Matthew Rhys. Shows such as “The Chi” return for a third season, while Netflix gets set to premiere new content including the Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams film “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.” The Daytime Emmy Awards will also be handed out in what will be a fascinating first look at awards shows in a COVID era.

Perry Mason (HBO) – Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 P.M.

Following the success of his Emmy-award winning performance in “The Americans,” Matthew Rhys is returning to the silver screen, this time in HBO’s dark adaptation of Erle Stanley Gardner’s stories of the same name. With a star-studded cast that also includes Emmy winners John Lithgow and Tatiana Maslany, “Perry Mason” is essential viewing this week, even if its gritty tone and dark subject matter maybe a little too much for some.

Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 (Disney+) – (Friday, June 26)

Disney + has begun creating great behind-the-scenes documentaries of some of their most popular original content, beginning a few weeks ago with “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian.” All six episodes of “Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2” will be made available on Friday, which will give a fascinating insight into exactly what goes on behind the scenes when creating an animated feature. It’s a perfect what for families who loved “Frozen 2,” as well as anybody with an interest of the filmmaking process.

Ford v Ferrari (HBO) – Tuesday, June 23 at 7:25 P.M.

Perhaps the best work of James Mangold’s career, “Ford v Ferrari” is an exhilarating instant classic, featuring yet another outstanding performance from Christian Bale. Telling the story of the bond between Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby heading into the 1966 race of Le Mans, this action-packed Oscar-winning sports drama features incredible racing set-pieces and incredible sound design, making it the perfect film for those looking for a two-and-a-half-hour escape during these unprecedented times.
