Debuting at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Scott Z. Burns’ “The Report” finally lands on Amazon tonight. Based on real events, it follows Daniel Jones (Adam Driver), a senate staffer hired to run an investigation into the United States interrogation program following the attacks of September 11th. Weaving through time, Daniel uncovers horrific methods the CIA used to get their information, many of which would be classified as torture. With the help of Senator Dianne Feinstein (Annette Bening), he looks to expose the truth about the CIA and their inhuman practices. Led by Driver and Bening’s stellar performances and a detailed script, “The Report” looks to be the “Spotlight” of 2019 and an awards contender for Amazon.

 Movies on TV:

“Us” (HBO) at 8:00 PM ET

When Jordan Peele premiered his follow up to “Get Out” at South by Southwest, it was clear he wasn’t going to be a one hit wonder. In “Us,” we follow Adelaide (Lupita Nyong’o) and her family as they must fight off their sinister doppelgängers. While the premise seems to be of a standard horror flick, there is more to this story than meets the eye. Tangling in many social and political messages, Peele is able to turn an entertaining blockbuster with a statement of our current world and how we treat each other. With strong direction and writing from Peele, mixed with one of the best performances of 2019 from Nyong’o, “Us” is guaranteed to have you thinking long and hard after it ends.
