Paolo Sorrentino’s anticipated “The New Pope” debuts tonight, acting as a follow up to the 2016 series “The Young Pope.” Originally planned as a second season, Jude Law reprises his role as Pope Pius XIII, which landed him a Golden Globe nomination, with John Malkovich starring as Pope John Paul III. Two episodes screened at Venice International Film Festival to critical acclaim. As a result, all eyes are on HBO’s latest drama and whether it can better the original.
