It is a day full of disaster and chaos and not just because it’s Monday. “Chernobyl,” a miniseries on the infamous Chernobyl incident is premieres tonight on HBO, while a brand new series takes on the battles and domestic disasters of marriage. There’s also a cautionary sci-fi film about the potential apocalypse airing tonight teaming with chaotic outcomes. Here’s an in-depth look at some of our cataclysmic TV options.

“Chernobyl” (HBO) at 9:00 PM EST

It seems when Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Watson collaborate, bad luck befalls their respective characters. In “Breaking the Waves,” they portrayed a couple in shambles after Skarsgard becomes physically disabled. Now, in the HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” they, and the equally talented ensemble cast face one of the most cataclysmic events in international history. On April 26, 1986, an incident at a nuclear power plant in Ukraine claimed several lives, with the exact amount of casualties still remains unknown. Along with the inciting drama, “Chernobyl” depicts its aftermath of misinformation, lies, and death.

Besides Skarsgard and Watson, Jared Harris of “The Crown” fame and rising actress Jessie Buckley star.

“Bachelorette Reunion: The Biggest Bachelorette Reunion in Bachelor History Ever!” (ABC) at 8:00 PM EST

Fans of the famed reality series “The Bachelorette” will probably love this special. To celebrate the show’s fifteenth season, host Chris Harrison is inviting past Bachelorettes to see where they are now. Admittedly, it might not be the biggest reunion in Bachelor History ever since two former contestants won’t appear, but again, fans will more than likely get pleasure out of the reunion special.

“State of the Union” (SundanceTV) at 10:00 PM EST

A part of adult life that could be as cataclysmic as a nuclear disaster is a marriage. The new series “State of the Union” looks to show how disastrous matrimony can be and attempts to do so in with dark humor to boot. In the new series, Chris O’Dowd and Rosamund Pike play a couple attending marital counseling. As the show progresses, the couple tries to figure out where their marriage went wrong and if they can get it back, if they ever had the spark there, to begin with.

Chris O’Dowd is reliable when it comes to comedy, but Rosamund Pike isn’t quite established in that regard. Seeing Pike demonstrate her comical chops will hopefully warrant some curiosity.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (AMC) at 7:30 PM EST

If you’d rather see a more implausible disaster, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” might be for you. This prequel in the famed “Planet of the Apes” series illustrates the perils and consequences of toying with nature. It’s still unlikely talking apes will start taking over the world, but the film, especially the first entry in the series, serves as a cautionary tale nonetheless. As for the film’s quality, it’s a strong franchise revival after the ill-received “Planet of the Apes” remake from 2001 and features a virtuoso performance from Andy Serkis as the rebellious ape Caesar. A portrayal that is a pinnacle in his already prolific career in the art of motion capture.

“The Heat” (FXM) at 7:35 PM EST

Thankfully, with films like “The Heat” airing, there’s not too much disaster going on but definitely a lot of chaos. “The Heat” offers fun, hilarious entertainment. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are a comedic dream team as a pair of mismatched cops in this comedy crusade. This is the second film out of four where McCarthy and director Paul Feig have worked together, making it quite obvious, simply from this film, the pair should collaborate more.

In case you don’t want to go apocalyptic, new episodes of these shows will air.
