What’s On TV? – Sunday (05/26/2019) – ‘The Spanish Princess’ Reigns

The Spanish Princess

Now that “Veep” and “Game of Thrones” have ended and “Barry” is in between seasons, premium cable channels have a void to fill. With the loss of so much must-see TV, both cable providers and viewers are clamoring for new shows to draw their attention. But while Sunday nights may be a little quieter without these critical darlings and audience favorites, there’s still plenty for audiences to sink their teeth into.

PICK OF THE DAY:

The Spanish Princess (Starz) at 8:00 PM EST

The Spanish Princess

After a few introductory episodes detailing Catherine of Aragon’s arrival in England and her brief marriage to the oft-forgotten Prince Arthur, “The Spanish Princess” is finally getting to a relationship that audiences should be a bit more familiar with. The chemistry between Catherine and the young Prince Harry (future King Henry VIII) is fiery and energetic, and the soapy yet entertaining historical romance is an entirely welcome diversion.

LIVE TELEVISION EVENT:

National Memorial Day Concert (PBS) at 8:00 PM EST

National Memorial Day Concert 2018

In honor of Memorial Day on Monday, PBS will be broadcasting a live concert this evening that looks set to bring together some fairly recognizable musical names in a patriotic extravaganza. Guests include Patti LaBelle, Gavin DeGraw, Christopher Jackson (best known for his role as George Washington in Hamilton), and the National Symphony Orchestra. This is traditionally one of PBS’s most-watched pieces of live programming, and it promises to be quite the star-spangled spectacle.

MOVIES ON TV:

Lord of the Rings Marathon (A&E)

Lord of the Rings

“Game of Thrones” fans are, understandably, looking for another fantasy epic now that the HBO juggernaut has ended after eight seasons. Many are likely waiting with bated breath for the new “Lord of the Rings” series currently in development over at Amazon Prime. But in the meantime, this seems like a golden opportunity to revisit the Academy Award-winning original trilogy from Peter Jackson, which will be airing in its entirety tonight on A&E.
