As we enter another week of quarantine, we need as much entertainment as we can get right now. Therefore, this week’s highlights include NBC bringing back their Emmy winning hit for a one-night special, and delivering their brand new streaming platform, Peacock. Mix in the debut of a 2019 Oscar-nominated feature on HBO, plus new episodes of your favorite televisions shows, and you’ll have plenty of things to watch as you stay safe at home.

Pick of the Week

30 Rock

30 Rock: A One Time Special (NBC)– Thursday, July 15 at 8:00 PM

From 2006 to 2013, “30 Rock” reigned as one of the funniest shows on television. The three-time Emmy winner for Best Comedy follows the behind the scenes antics of a sketch comedy show in New York City. Loosely based on her time at “Saturday Night Live,” show creator and star Tina Fey created a beautiful tapestry of zany characters, making us laugh for close to a decade. Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, and Jack McBrayer round out this hilarious ensemble. While this reunion will be shot remotely over Zoom, we should expect Fey and the company to bring the same kind of humor we expect from “30 Rock.”

Peacock Streaming Service – Wednesday, July 15

It seems like every television company has a streaming platform nowadays. Enter Peacock, the newest streaming service from NBCUniversal, with over 7,500 hours of content to select. Favorites like comedies “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” or dramas like “House” or “Law and Order” highlight the television offerings. Then there is new content like “Brave New World,” Peacock’s television adaptation of the renowned Aldous Huxley’s novel starring Alden Ehrenreich. You can also stream dozens of popular movies like the “The Matrix,” “Jurassic Park,” and the “Do the Right Thing.” Overall, it’s a welcome addition to the current streaming landscape.

Harriet (HBO) – Saturday, July 18 at 8:00 PM

Debuting on HBO this week is one of the more underrated releases from 2019. From director Kasi Lemmons, “Harriet” follows the extraordinary life of the abolitionist Harriet Tubman (Cynthia Erivo). Tracking her life from a slave who escaped to her freedom to her revolutionary work with the Underground Railroad, we get to see the full picture of one of the most important historical figures in American History. Led by an Oscar-nominated performance from Erivo, and Lemmon’s dazzling direction, give this biopic a look when it premieres this weekend.
