What’s On TV? – Thursday (11/7/19) – One of the Best Movies of the 2000s is Worth a Re-Watch

Right now, most critics and film enthusiasts are starting to compile their Best Films of the 2010s list. Tonight, one of the best films of the 2000s airs, which makes for a great opportunity to revisit or catch up with a wonderful, strange film.

Pick of the Day:

“Adaptation” (FLIXe) at 6:00 p.m. ET

One of the best films of the previous decade is available to watch on TV tonight. Spike Jonze’s 2002 film “Adaptation,” written by Charlie Kaufman, is a film that could only come from the mind of Kaufman. Nicholas Cage stars as Kaufman, as well as his fictional twin brother Donald, as they try to adapt Susan Orlean’s “The Orchid Thief.” The cast includes Meryl Streep, as Orlean, and Chris Cooper in his Oscar-winning role.

Movies on TV:

“Walk the Line” (CMT) at 10:30 p.m. ET

It’s rare for a musical biopic — these days, especially — to not feel like filmed karaoke. James Mangold’s “Walk the Line” is a rare instance when a movie incorporated the familiar narrative and hit songs, then balanced everything with genuine emotion. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, in her Oscar-winning role, are great together as John and June Carter Cash. They really bring the country giants’ story to life on screen.
