What’s On TV? – Thursday (7/11/19)– ‘Love Island’ Still Enchants

For many, this week has been a post-holiday haze, as we recover from a long weekend inundated with food, fireworks and family fun. One of the best things about TV is that it can help viewers settle back into a routine, with new stories to look forward to each week. Tonight, an array of terrific television shows will broadcast, from British expat “Love Island” to new series like “Killer Affair.” Check out some can’t-be-missed premieres, returns and brand-new series below.  

Pick of The Day

“Love Island” (CBS) at 8 pm ET

The reality series “Love Island” has been making waves in Britain, and now that it has come ashore to American TV, it’s one of tonight’s top picks. The show premiered on Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean that viewers will have to wait a whole week to see new episodes – it will be broadcasting new installments a record five times each week. An ideal summer series, “Love Island” features real people trying to find love, and the audience gets to decide who gets to stay or swim. Tune in at 8 pm ET on CBS. 

 What’s Premiering? 

“Killer Affair” (OXYGEN) at 8 pm ET

Oxygen’s latest series, “Killer Affair” premieres tonight, and viewers should be prepared for some seriously juicy television. The new series focuses on various scorned lovers’ violent crimes of passion. From stories of deceit to illicit affairs, the new show will be especially gripping for true crime fans. “Killer Affair” will feature interviews with family, friends and investigators, and will even include riveting reenactments of the many horrifying crimes. Tune in at 8 pm ET on Oxygen. 

What’s Returning?

“The Outpost” (CW) at 9pm ET

The CW has renewed the supernatural series “The Outpost” for Season 2, which premieres tonight at 9pm. Fans of Season 1, and fans of great supernatural series in general, should be eager to tune in to this exciting show. In this series, Talon (Jessica Green) is the lone member of a race of people called the “Blackbloods,” as her entire village was slaughtered when she was young. Now that she is older, Talon decides to go forth and find out who was responsible for the murders. Along the way, she learns more about herself than she ever imagined. Catch the return at 9 pm ET on CW. 

“Jersey Shore: Family Vacation” (MTV) at 8 pm ET

The “Jersey Shore” gang first came together in 2009, now, ten years later, they are still as close as ever. In the premiere of Season 3 of “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation,” the friends reunite in this two-part special in support of Mike “The Situation,” as he prepares to face sentencing for tax evasion charges. Tune in for “The United States vs. The Situation” at 8 and 9 pm ET on MTV. 

“Ax Men” (HIST) at 9pm ET

This popular History channel series returns for Season 10. “Ax Men” chronicles the lives of loggers as they take on an industry in the midst of great change, working around the clock to make ends meet in an unpredictable field. The show will feature newcomers like Frank Harkness in addition to loggers who will be more familiar to fans of the series like Craig Rygaard, Buckin’ Billy Ray, Wade Etienne, and more. From loggers in the Pacific Northwest all the way to Vancouver Island, the series gives viewers a glimpse into a fascinating industry. Hack in to “Ax Men” at 9 pm ET on History. 

“The Dead Files” (TRAVEL) at 8 pm ET

Forget “Midsommar,” prepare to feel haunted by Season 11 of the “Dead Files.” Travel Channel’s paranormal series combines the fascinating minds of one-time NYPD detective Steve DiSchiavi and medium Amy Allan as they examine various locales and determine if they are indeed visited by other-worldly spirits. Tune in for spooky thrills at 8 pm ET on the Travel Channel. 

Movies on TV

Tonight is a great opportunity to watch critically-acclaimed films like “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (2017) and “Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018). “Three Billboards” will be broadcasting on MOMAX at 7 pm ET, and it is a can’t-miss film, especially for fans of Frances McDormand. The Oscar-winning actress gives a supercharged and sardonic performance in this work about a mother who is searching for the man who raped and killed her daughter. Martin McDonagh directed this gripping drama, so viewers should know to expect piercing and deeply affecting dialogue.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is another electric film that will grace TV screens tonight. Rami Malek stars as Freddie Mercury in this Oscar-winning biopic, as it illustrates the actor’s extraordinary talent beyond “Mr. Robot.” Malek won an Academy Award for this energetic performance. Tune in at 8 pm on HBO for this homage to the late Queen lead singer.  

What’s New?

Not into supernatural series, deep-dives into the world of logging, violent crimes, or “Jersey Shore” shenanigans? There is still plenty of worthwhile TV on tonight.
