This Tuesday may not have has many new episodes of your favorite shows, but a couple programs look to take over the night. “Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” will nominate its first evictions from the house tonight. A few films, including Oscar winners “Forrest Gump” and “The Queen,” could take up the rest of the night.

Pick Of The Day

“Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” on CBS at 8 PM

Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” returns for its second season. There are a group of really fun contestants for the upcoming season, as well as some very problematic ones. That helps the show create the stakes that help fuel the fan base. The second episode of the show should give us the first nominations for the eviction round. • Dina Lohan – “Momager” for Lindsey Lohan
  • Joey Lawrence – Actor and Producer

What’s Returning?

“Siesta Key” (9 PM)

The reality TV series returns to MTV tonight at 9 PM. The show follows a group of young adults living in paradise. In many ways, the show was a pseudo-sequel to “Jersey Shore,” but the show was met with a lot of controversy over its first season. The second season was only announced in December of 2018, so MTV almost buried the lead. However, it’s here, so it will be curious to see if it performs well enough to keep going.

Movies On TV

There are some fun choices for television tonight, beginning with “Forrest Gump” on Paramount Network at 8 PM. “Forrest Gump” continues to have strong supporters and some detractors. However, you cannot deny it left a massive footprint on the culture. You may not love Robert Zemeckis‘ story of nostalgia, but Tom Hanks will win you over. With 6 Oscar wins, and more than a half dozen other nominations, “Forrest Gump” remains one of the great American films.

Meanwhile, Flix is offering up “The Queen” at 8 PM for those in the mood for a different Best Picture nominee.  The Stephen Frears directed film only took home one prize, but few argue with the Helen Mirren win for playing the titular character. There are many who still bemoan the missed opportunity to reward Michael Sheen for his great performance. The movie has issues at times, but the performers do a lot to elevate the screenplay.

Finally, if you’re looking for good old fashion fun, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” airs on CMT at 8 PM. The first time that we got Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as a duo really clicks into place. It also features a shockingly good performance from Sacha Baron Cohen. The real MVPs of the film are the undeniably great Gary Cole and Jane Lynch. The ensemble continues to show a surprisingly deep roster, with Amy AdamsMichael Clark DuncanMolly Shannon and more. Adam McKay directs the film, and it remains one of the most quotable and ridiculous films of the decade.
