What’s On TV?- Tuesday (12/31/19) – Close 2019 With ‘Long Shot’

Long Shot

It’s the final day of 2019. On this special occasion, viewers can end the year on a high note by revisiting two acclaimed pictures that came out this spring. Not to mention, they’d be great ways to spend time until the big ball drop at 11:59 pm. There’s also a traditional special full of music and celebration that audiences can watch before the countdown.

“Long Shot” (HBO Signature) at 9:00 PM EDT

Charlize Theron’s latest film “Bombshell” is currently in theaters and garnering Oscar buzz for the Oscar-winning actress. Fans of hers can also revisit an unsung gem that came out earlier this year. In “Long Shot,” Theron plays Charlotte Field, a Secretary of State who becomes a Presidential candidate. As her campaign takes place, she crosses paths with Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen), a journalist who Charlotte used to babysit. Charlotte then hires Fred as her speech maker, resulting in feelings developing between them.

“Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” (ABC) at 8:00 PM EDT

What better place is there to do the New Year’s countdown than Times Square? However, those who can’t make it, or choose to avoid the chaotic crowds, can watch at home. There are various specials hosting the big countdown tonight. One of them being Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve which is hosted on ABC annually. This year, Ryan Seacrest and Lucy Hale will serve as the Times Square hosts while musician Ciara will cover the countdown from the West Coast. Meanwhile, artists such as Sheryl Crow, Green Day, and BTS will perform.

“Shazam!” (HBO) at 8:00 PM EDT

For those who want to end their 2019 movie watching on a high note, “Shazam!” is a viable option. Based on the DC Comics of the same name, “Shazam!” follows the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a troubled foster child. His life suddenly changes when a wizard named Shazam grants him superpowers. By speaking the wizard’s name, he exercises his abilities while becoming an adult version of himself (Zachary Levi). Both humorous and heartfelt, “Shazam!” is a real winner and worthy entry in the DC Cinematic Universe canon.
