What’s On TV? – Tuesday (2/26/19) – ‘The Voice’ and ‘World of Dance’ Take the Spotlight

World of Dance

NBC has a strong night of reality competition shows to check out. The second day of Blind Auditions for “The Voice” should be exciting for audiences to watch and often delivers on the emotion. Following “The Voice,” “World of Dance” begins its own tryouts in a two-hour season premiere. There are some fun comedies to check out on TV tonight as well, including “Spy” and “Shaun of the Dead.” However, “Gaslight” represents a great choice for classic film fans. Check out our full lists of what is on TV below!

Pick of the Night

The Voice Season 16 Judges

“The Voice” on NBC at 8 PM

The Emmy-winning reality competition show premiered last night, but we are still in the Blind Auditions segment of the show. This remains the highlight of the season until the show begins to wind down, and “The Voice” has earned its Emmy wins in these episodes. With John Legend joining the show as a guest this season, it will be interesting to see which singers get picked up for which teams. “The Voice” has already entered its sixteenth season and does not appear to be slowing down any time soon.

What’s Premiering?

“World of Dance” on NBC at 9 PM

World of Dance LogoThe first round of qualifiers are on tonight for “World of Dance,” one of NBC’s two reality competition series airing tonight. It follows “The Voice,” so if you are still in the mood for another big program block, you’re in for a treat. The season premiere of the popular show has a two-hour block, so this will be a long one. However, with judges Jennifer LopezNe-Yo, and Derek Hough, they’ll be plenty of entertainment on hand. Supposedly the minimum scores went up this season, so keep that in mind with the quality of dancers tonight. It will air weekly on Tuesdays.

Movies on TV

Shaun Of The Dead DI

An excellent zombie film will air on Encore tonight at 7:15 PM. “Shaun of the Dead” continues to make waves fifteen years after its release. It remains one of the best horror-comedy films of the century so far, and launched several careers in the process. What helps “Shaun of the Dead” stand out has always been its emotional core of the film. With great actors throughout the comedy, including Simon PeggNick FrostLucy DavisPeter SerafinowiczRafe Spall, and Bill Nighy, the film helped launch Edgar Wright’s career.

SpymainWhile Melissa McCarthy may not have won the Oscar on Sunday night, you can still catch one of her best movies tonight. “Spy” will air on FXM at 6:50 PM, and again at 9:10 PM. Written and directed by Paul Feig, “Spy” follows a CIA analyst who goes into the field for the first time after her partner is killed in cold blood. McCarthy delivers a killer performance, as do Rose ByrneMiranda Hart, and Jason Statham. The ensemble works extremely well together, and everyone’s willingness to poke fun at themselves elevates the spy comedy.

Gaslight 1944 Ingrid Bergman

Finally, “Gaslight” will air tonight on TCM at 8 PM. Watch the film that earned Ingrid Bergman her first of three career Oscars. The story follows a young woman who moves into her aunt’s house decades after her Aunt was murdered there. However, her husband (Charles Boyer) slowly drives his wife insane in order to keep her in the dark about a secret. The film also stars Joseph Cotten and a young Angela Lansbury, who was also nominated. It was directed by future Oscar winner George Cukor as well. “Gaslight” received seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, but could only bring home two on the night.
