What’s On TV? – Wednesday (10/9/19) – Women Unite on Wednesday Nights!

0

After many years of outcry from women and allies in entertainment and not in entertainment, we are finally seeing more female-driven shows than ever before. A few weeks ago several shows with strong female leads premiered such as “Stumptown,” “Almost Family” and now with “Nancy Drew” and talk show host “A Little Late With Lilly Singh.” Although the entertainment business is especially tough on women, right now seems to be their moment.

Pick of the Day

“A Little Late With Lilly Singh” (CW) at 1:35 a.m. ET

YouTube sensation Lilly Singh makes television history as the first female talk show host on primetime network TV.  Not only is Lilly a woman, but she is also Indian and Bisexual. Earlier this year, “Late Night” starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson released a film that explores a female talk show host as she approaches retirement. At the time of release, the irony of the film was not lost on viewers as there were no current female late-night talk show hosts.

Now just a few months later, there is a female late-night talk show host for real.  “A Little Late With Lilly Singh” is on NBC at 1:30 a.m. ET, making Singh the first female to ever have her own prime time late-night network talk show. What an accomplishment. With Singh’s offbeat and relatable humor, this new late-night show is something to pay attention to.

Movies on TV

How To Lose a Guy In Ten Days” (HBO2) at 9:00 p.m. ET

When “How To Lose a Guy In Ten Days” was released in 2003 it instantly became a rom-com classic. With the ever so charismatic relationship between Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Unknowingly pitted against each other by their co-workers, Hudson’s goal is to make a man break up with her in ten days while McConaughey’s goal is to make Hudson fall in love. With such opposite goals and competing forces, this hilarious and sweet film is the perfect mid-week pick-me-up.
