“Suicide Squad” director David Ayer is gearing up for his next project, which reportedly is set to cast Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in leading roles. The trio are all in talks at the moment.
The film in question is “Bright,” which is written by Max Landis (“American Ultra”). Although plot details are scant at the moment, Variety reports that it will be similar to “End of Watch,” another Ayer film, but will be set in a world of orcs, fairies and humans. The film will reportedly not be set in modern day.
The film is being eyed by Warner Bros. and Sony, Variety reports.
A production date is not yet set for the film, but it is believed that Ayer and Smith would aim to complete the film in time to reunite for the “Suicide Squad” sequel, which is shooting for a 2017 production.
Deadline, the outlet to first report the news, is calling the film “a contemporary cop thriller, but with fantastical elements.”
According to Slash Film, Landis tweeted the cover of the script back in August. It had Ayer’s name on it as well, due to the fact that Ayer did a rewrite of Landis’ original story.
Smith will be seen next in Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” in August alongside Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis and more.
In addition, Smith recently started filming “Collateral Beauty” alongside Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Edward Norton, Helen Mirren and Naomie Harris. Edgerton’s upcoming projects include two Jeff Nichols flicks, “Midnight Special” and “Loving.”
