Women Film Critics Circle Winners: ‘Portrait of A Lady on Fire’ and ‘Harriet’ Lead Wins

The Women Film Critics Circle (WFCC) have unveiled their 2019 winners.

Céline Sciamma’s lesbian romance “Portrait of A Lady on Fire” won the WFCC’s award for Best Film About Women, while Kasi Lemmons’ “Harriet” won the award for Best Film By a Woman.

Cynthia Erivo tied with Lupita Nyong’o in the Best Actress category for their respective performances. In the Best Actor category, Adam Driver wins and continues to pop up in the awards race and among several critics groups for his performance in Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story.” 

The late and legendary filmmaker Agnès Varda was awarded with the Best Documentary By or About Women for her film “Varda by Agnès.” The Adrienne Shelly Award, presented to a film that most passionately opposes violence against women, was awarded to a tie of “Bombshell” and Jennifer Kent’s “The Nightingale.”
