The Writers Guild Awards Announce Their 2019 Awards Schedule

WGA Logo

Another major guild set their schedule for the 2018 awards season. The Writers Guild Awards, or WGA, represents one of the key precursors in the hunt for Oscar. The WGA represents the writers behind the films that find their way into the public eye. The awards showcase the best in film and in television from the previous year, using January to December as their eligibility window.

Based on WGA rules, some films considered to be frontrunners lose their eligibility status. In previous years, some films that would grab Oscar nominations were ruled ineligible for the WGA nominations. Just last year, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” was ruled ineligible. The WGA’s has also given some fun films a big boost as they attempted to get Oscar nominations. Both “Deadpool” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” received nominations from the WGA. So did “Sicario” and “Trainwreck.” The WGA’s are always an interesting group and a great place to show love to screenplays just on the outside of Oscar.
