Abdul-Mateen has starred in 2017’s “The Vanishing of Sidney Hall,” and has since secured roles in “The Greatest Showman,” “Black Mirror,” “Us” and within HBO’s forthcoming comic book series, “Watchmen.” He is also cast in Nia DaCosta’s “Candyman.” Abdul-Mateen’s specific role in “Matrix 4” has not been confirmed.

News of the fourth film was announced to be in development back in August. “Matrix 4” is set to be directed by Lana Wachowski, who co-created and directed the original 1999 film with sister Lilly Wachowski. Keanu Reeves (“John Wick”) and Carrie-Anne Moss (“Jessica Jones”) are confirmed to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity.

Wachowski will be writing, directing and producing the fourth installment. The story continues with fans of the original keeping a close eye on it. “Matrix 4” is an addition to a franchise that has long been regarded as one of the best action sci-fi film series. “The Matrix” was released in 1999 and produced with an estimated $63 million budget and went on to gross more than $463 million worldwide.

Warner Bros and Village Roadshow are reteaming to produce the project. Wachowski will produce with Grant Hill. Wachowski will co-write the script with Aleksander Hemon (“Sense8”) and David Mitchell.
